Brass Instruments Mouthpiece Care Shanika Making sure your instrument is clean and in proper working order is an essential step to musical bliss â€" that place in your mind where you can easily, effortlessly enjoy making music with your horn! Taking care of your mouthpiece is the first step. Here are some very easy things you can do to make sure your mouthpiece lasts long and plays loud. Daily Care Preventative measures are the best way to keep your mouthpiece shiny and clean. You will need: Your mouthpiece Mouthpiece brush (trumpet/French horn or trombone/euphonium/tuba) Spray bottle with clean water Clean cotton rag (a piece of an old sock or t-shirt will do) Here’s what to do: 1) Brush your teeth. When? After meals and before playing. Why? Most sediment in dirty instruments and mouthpieces comes from food particles left in the mouth after eating. 2) Spray mouthpiece and brush out any internal residue. When? After practicing and rehearsal. Why? Dry lips can leave skin particles that stick to the mouthpiece rims; dirty leadpipes can leave grime. Wipe off these areas any any residue in the mouthpiece cup. Deep Clean: Despite our best efforts at daily maintenance, mouthpieces tend to get gross or worn over time. A thorough mouthpiece cleaning about once a month will remove germs, gunk, and any other gross things that build up during normal use! Frequency: monthly Time needed: 30 minutes You will need: Your mouthpiece Mouthpiece brush (trumpet/French horn or trombone/euphonium/tuba) Mi-T Mist, FlavOmist, Sterisol, or other alcohol-based sterilizer Dish soap Drinking glass Clean cotton rag Silver polish cloth (optional, but DO NOT use for gold plated or plastic mouthpieces) Here’s what to do: 1. Add a drop of dish soap to the glass, then fill with enough warm water to cover the length of the mouthpiece. Make sure it’s not scalding hot as it could affect the finish of your mouthpiece. 2. Soak your mouthpiece for about 20 minutes in the soapy water to loosen buildup. If it is extremely dirty, allow to soak overnight. 3. Brush out from either end to fully remove buildup. 4. Rinse the mouthpiece under warm running water, dry with rag, then let air dry for about a minute. 5. Sterilize the mouthpiece with a couple of sprays, and allow to dry for another minute before wiping off the sterilizer. 6. If tarnished, use a silver polishing cloth to restore shine to shank and cup. 7. Repeat steps 4-5. Always rinse the mouthpiece after using a silver polishing cloth That’s it! When dealing with someone in a position of power, the overwhelm may be too much for an introvert to express their concerns and issues they may be having. As you may know, introverts process their thoughts and feelings internally, which can be exhausting at times. During times of great stress and dismay, introverts need more recovery time and space to do their thinking. Coming clean or discussing a matter of importance may be delayed because of how an introvert is interacting with the information she or he is getting. If this is the case for you, a feedback loop might be what is needed to help you express your concerns. Introverts Are Not Quiet or Shut-off While it is a common misconception that introverts are withdrawn and don’t like to talk to people, it is true for some people who internalize everything around them. The sensations they have in their bodies may be too much at times to deal with the day-to-day energies that are needed to manage a job. For a great deal of introverts, the real trouble begins when they are stressed out or overthinking a situation because they do all of their thinking in their heads. Introverts rarely reach out to someone for comfort or consultation. Because of this, they allow issues to weigh heavily on them for far longer than the average person might. Such situations still require resolution and a feedback loop, or some form of electronic or anonymous way of providing information to an employer may be needed. Keep the Conversation Going   Feedback loops provide safe spaces for employees to report issues, concerns, and also praise or support their superiors. Feedback loops also work the other way as well: superiors can provide information to their employees. These virtual meeting rooms provide employers and employees with the ability to discuss matters, track issues, and provide resolutions without overwhelming one another. While communication is of the utmost importance, especially in today’s workplace, how that communication happens is less important than ensuring the information gets out and is dealt with properly. Software Keeps People Connected You may be of the opinion that the last thing an office needs is another chat room or electronic software package to separate its workers, but for people who need to collect their thoughts before they feel comfortable expressing them, and for people who need to have space to process what is received in return, they are the perfect solution. If you are reading this you are either someone who identified as an introvert or you are an employer who has people on staff that are introverts. Even if you aren’t in one of these two categories, providing a safe and effective means of communication without confrontation is important for today’s workplaces. Curiosity is Important   Introverts are very curious people and they like to dig into their own thoughts and explore why things are the way they are. While using a feedback loop, you can explore your own thoughts and come to conclusions about how certain situations rest with you before providing that feedback to your employer. You may find that you are able to resolve some of the issues on your own, especially if your brain is in hyperdrive about something and you suspect you may be overreacting. Still though, providing that feedback is a worthwhile move because it draws attention to the unrest that you may be experiencing, and your employer may be able to help you with that. Use the Tools you Have There’s no reason to just limit feedback loops to when something needs to be reported through. There are plenty of reasons to use feedback loops to promote and support one another. Providing positive feedback and congratulatory messages are also great ways to connect with one another online and keep the conversations going while building trust and holding space for someone in the office. Introverts are often exhausted at the end of a long work day, and while extroverts may still have the energy to be around people and talk about their problems, introverts may not. Providing an online forum for discussion and interaction ensures that introverts get to participate in the conversation, resolutions, and solution-based discussions for the organization. The examples below will show the algebraic terms with algebra operations. Example 1:Solve (4x -4y-4z) + (2z+2y+2x) Solution:Now we need to solve it by the parenthesis, = 4x -4y-4z+2z+2y+2x Now we have to separate the like terms and then we will write it together, we will get the following = 4x+2x-4y+2y-4z+2z = 6x-2y-2z Therefore on solving (4x -4y-4z) + (2z+2y+2x), we get 6x-2y-2z. Example 2:Solve 2x/10 + 5x/10 = 3/10 + 5/10 Solution :-Given, 2x/10 + 5x/10 = 3/10 + 5/10 Now we have to solve the right hand side of the above equation, for this we need to take LCM on the right hand side 2x/10 + 5x/10 = (3+5)/10 2x/10 + 5x/10 = (8)/10 2x/10 + 5x/10 = 8/10 Similarly we have to solve the left hand side by taking the LCM on the left hand side 2x/10 + 5x/10 = 8/10 (2x+ 5x)/10 = 8/10 7x/10 = 8/10 Now to solve the above equation, we have to cross multiply the above, then we will get (7x) x 10 = 8 x 10 7x = 8 Now to evaluate the value of x, we have to divide both sides of the equation by 7 7x/7 = 8/7 Therefore x = 8/7

A polynomial is an expression which contains more than one term and monomial is an expression which contains a single term. Dividing a polynomial by a monomial is that dividing an expression having more than one term by an expression having single term. On dividing a polynomial by a monomial, divide each term of polynomial by a monomial. While dividing each term by a monomial, divide the numbers (coefficients) and subtract the exponents. Example 1: Divide: (12x^5 16x^3 + 8 x^2) / 4x^2 Solution: Divide each term of polynomial by monomial That is, (12x^5)/ 4x^2 (16x^3/4x^2) + (8x^2/4x^2) While dividing, divide the coefficients and subtract the exponents Hence we get, 3x^3 4x + 2 Therefore, (12x^5 16x^3 + 8 x^2) / 4x^2 = 3x^3 4x + 2 Example 2: Divide: (25a^5 + 35a^3 15a^2 + 30a) / 5a Solution: Divide each term of polynomial by monomial On division, divide the coefficients and then subtract the exponents (25a^5/ 5a)+ (35a^3 / 5a) (15a^2 / 5a) + (30a / 5a) / 5a = 5a^4 + 7a^2 3a + 6 Note: When dividing by a monomial the number of terms in the polynomial equals the number of terms in the answer. Is ADHD Real More than any other disorder, the legitimacy of ADHD as a mental health diagnosis is questioned by armchair experts everywhere. Anyone who has ADHD themselves or has a child with ADHD has encountered family members and friends who are more than happy to share their belief that ADHD doesnt actually exist - I was hyper when I was a kid too, but I didnt have ADHD. Its just kids being kids. Kids are too coddled these days, so they dont respect their teachers. If parents would just discipline their kids, then they wouldnt behave this way. If kids didnt spend so much time watching TV and playing videogames, then they wouldnt have ADHD. Hearing these messages is especially difficult for parents of kids with ADHD. Parents face the challenge of not only having to cope with their childs ADHD, but also having to defend their parenting choices and the very existence of the ADHD symptoms. For many parents, dismissive comments from friends and family also plant seeds of doubt, leading them to quietly wonder whether their parenting is in fact the problem, or if they did actually cause their childs ADHD by allowing them to play too many videogames. In addition, these comments perpetuate the stigma that too often surrounds ADHD, and ultimately discourages people from seeking help for themselves or their child. While public opinion about ADHD varies widely, the science behind ADHD is actually quite specific: ADHD is a real, brain-based disorder that manifests as difficulty with concentration, organization, impulse control, and hyperactivity. Through brain imaging studies scientists are now able to identify parts of the brain that develop and function differently in individuals with ADHD (see my previous post on brain differences in with ADHD). What causes ADHD? Researchers are continually developing a more sophisticated understanding of why some people develop ADHD and others do not. The science shows us that the number one factor contributing to the development of ADHD is not watching too much TV or playing too many videogames, or parenting style or the food someone eats. Its genetics. A persons genes make up about 80% of their risk for developing ADHD. The other 20% likely comes from other environmental or health-related factors, like exposure to nicotine in utero, being born prematurely, being exposed to lead, etc. While factors like screen time, parenting style, teaching style, and diet dont cause ADHD, research show that they can affect the severity of ADHD symptoms. So, growing up in a structured home environment, attending high quality schools, spending limited amounts of time playing videogames and watching TV, and eating a healthy diet can all help with the management of ADHD symptoms. These protective factors may even change the w ay the brain develops over time, leading to a less severe course of ADHD overall. With so much evidence showing that ADHD is real, why do people question the diagnosis? For starters, ADHD symptoms exist on a spectrum, and everyone as moments or days when they are less focused than theyd like to be or find themselves struggling to sit still. So, on an individual level, people without ADHD dont fully understand that their periodic symptoms are far less severe than the chronic symptoms experienced by those with ADHD. As a result, they struggle to comprehend why it is that a person with ADHD cant simply make themselves focus or stop fidgeting. On a societal level, we believe that parents and teachers should be able to control a childs behavior. And, we fundamentally believe that all children and adults can be focused and organized when they choose to apply themselves. Individual weaknesses in these areas are rarely discussed or accepted as valid challenges faced by people with ADHD. There may be times when it seems like everyone has a different opinion about whether or not ADHD really exists but the scientific evidence doesnt waiver. ADHD is a brain-based disorder that has a very real impact on the lives of children and adults, as well as their families. Parenting and teaching styles, screen time, and diet dont cause ADHD to develop, but intervening in these areas can have a positive impact on symptoms and the trajectory of ADHD over time. ABOUT DR. Here are some English phrases and words you might hear on your next visit to a typical Pub. For many years the only order  you would hear is I’ll have a pint please. So beer or stout (much darker in colour and brewed  differently) were drunk in pint or half pint glasses or measures and that is still the case today.However, the biggest change that I have witnessed is the bottle. Now you are as likely to hear:-I’ll  have a bottle please or a bottle of beer-Which would you like? Heineken or Bud?-No, I will have  a Coors please. -In a glass? -No, by the neck.By the neck means without a glass; so many people  now drink without a glass.Here are some other common or likely English phrases and words on your next  visit to a pub:Just put it on my tab please if the bar owner knows you and you are ordering a lot of drinks they  may allow you to accumulate the orders and pay for them at the end of the night.Just put it on my card if you are celebrating a special event you might arrange with the barman to  leave your credit card behind the bar and tell him each time you order a drink. At the end of the  night he gives you the bad news!!The drinks are on me If you are celebrating promotion or a birthday you might buy a drink for  everyone in the bar or your close friends.I’ll get the first round or I think its your round next? A round or a round of drinks means a drink for  everyone in your group. Its customary for someone to buy the first round and then someone else  buys the next round and so on.It’s my shout! This means I’ll buy the drinks. We use shout because in a busy bar or pub you often  have to shout at the barman to get his attention and place (give) your order.At the end of the night it is traditional for the barman to shout last orders. Ladies and gentlemen  last orders please!. In the UK pubs used to close at 11 or 11.30 pm so the barman would shout last  order s 10 or 15 mins before closing. The licence does not permit him to sell alcohol after closing  time. However, the authorities usually allow drinking up time a short period after closing to allow  you to finish your drink.Have you know homes to go to! A very common phrase heard at the end of the night when the  barman is trying to get everyone out and start his cleaning.Regrettably pubs have changed dramatically. Now they serve more food than alcohol and the old  traditional pubs are disappearing. They can still be found in villages and towns with the locals  occupying the same seat everyday.In many cases they are a social club where elderly neighbours get  a chance to gossip and chat.
